Welcome to the blog of Mary Hanson Photography-Behind my Lens...

If you are looking for beautiful, high quality, fine art portraits of your children or family, and want attention to detail and personal service, you have found your new photographer! I serve clients in all areas of the metro area of Mpls and St. Paul and surrounding suburbs.
Mary Hanson Photography was born out of my ease and comfortability with children and my passion for photography, coupled with the desire of many area parents looking for a higher quality, more personal photo experience than is available at the "photo chains" in the metro. Your baby or child will be photographed in your home, an environment in which they are already comfortable, and you will get beautiful, natural photographs, that really show who your child is. Your child will be happy, you will be relaxed, and in fact, you will probably be surprised how much fun we will have!
You can view select photos from some of my recent sessions here on my blog, and then get more info about sessions by visiting my main site, by clicking here.
You can contact Mary at 612-991-8113 or by email at Mary@MaryHansonPhotography.com
I look forward to working with you!

sneak peek…Finn

I’ve been working since early this morning, desperately trying to catch up with the nine sessions I have to proof. Here is a sneak peek of one-newborn baby Finn. Just one day old here, taken at the hospital. Such a beautiful and beloved little guy.

I’ll have everyone’s galleries up by the end of the week, since the kids go back to school on Tuesday and I can work again! :) Thanks for your patience!

Sneak peek and update…

I will be on vacation for the next two weeks, returning voice mail and emails after my return on August 10th. If you want to schedule a session, send me your requested dates and times and I will get back to you when I return. If you place an order while I am gone, I will email confirmation once I am back and then get your order to you approximately two weeks after that.

Its been a sad week for me, one of my oldest friends unexpectedly lost her Mom (who was way too young at only 61) on Monday morning. Its made me miss my Mom so much more again, and knowing how my friend Heather is feeling, the hugeness of the loss, has just made this such a sad week. The funeral was today and my eyes are still sore from crying. :( I’ll miss you Barb, you were an amazing lady and truly loved. If you still have your Mom, give her a call, or a hug, or a card, and remember to treasure every day, and don’t take a single one for granted. Life is Just. Too. Short.

And, last-but certainly not least, I have a sneak peek for you K! I apologize for not having your entire gallery ready, but its been a crazy week and I hope it will be worth the wait when I return from vacation. Here are a few of your wonderful kids, really enjoyed seeing them again! Thanks so much for your patience, and for all the other clients who are also waiting for galleries, as I emailed you or told you at your session, they will be up as soon as I get back. :)

best,

Mary

teeny tiniest of sneak peeks…

I have four other sessions to be proofing but had to put up a teensy tiny sneak peek from my morning session today… Remember my “share the love” contest where Mikala won? Well, finally got to meet her today and she is the sweetest, nicest girl, and absolutely gorgeous inside and out! We had such fun trooping around uptown, and I had to give her a little peek! :)

More soon!

some recent favorites…

Summer is flying by, and now that the 4th of July is over, it is finally warming up around here. I have been remiss (again, no surprise) in posting promised sneak peeks, so I will just pull out a few of my favorites from the past couple weeks to share. :)

A quick note, summer and fall appointments are filling up fast, only a few are left. If you are counting on a session, or  you have a high school senior who you want me to photograph before the fall—call or email NOW to get your session booked.

Now, the photos: enjoy!

Summer weekends…

Just a quick post to let clients know that my summer weekends are nearly booked already, and I have many weekends in Sept/October already booked as well. If our late start to summer has caused you to put off booking your summer weekend session, now is the time to email Mary by clicking here   to check availability! I always feel bad when I get a repeat client call or email who I can’t squeeze in. :) ~m

Summer is finally here…

My kids and I spent the last two afternoons at Cascade Bay water-park in Eagan, thanks to an awesome season pass christmas gift from my brother Mark & my SIL Karla. Thanks guys! Some photos from my waterproof camera to show what fun we all had.

My dear daughter, above, showing off her famous ability to cross her eyes on command. I’m so proud. ;)

And, because I get *so many* emails from around the globe after I post an underwater photo, below is a link to the very affordable and fun point and shoot olympus that I use underwater! :) No, I don’t have an underwater housing for any of my pro cameras, just this fun little olympus, waterproof to 33ft, and lots of fun for boating or swimming! :)

Happy Summer!!

One of my favorite families…

I love repeat clients, getting to see how their children grow and change over the years. It is just another part of my job that I love! This beautiful, sweet little girl is one of my favorites too… when I first met her I think she was under six months old, now she is such a vibrant, busy and fun little girl! There is even a photo of her family with her big sisters & big brother in the header above, from last year! They are just a lovely family, both in appearance and in person.  Here is a sneak peek of her with Mom & Dad… I’ll have your gallery up soon!

thanks
Mary

Happy Father’s Day…

Happy Father’s Day to all of the Dads out there, and most especially, to the wonderful father of my three children, my amazing husband Mark. For some reason today, I’m reminded most especially how incredibly fast time goes by. I was going through some very old files, and came across this shot of my youngest.

He was two at the time, (now almost six, which is mind boggling to me) and I can’t believe how fast the time went. This is one of my favorite photos of him, I tend to prefer more somber photos, especially for black and whites. Anyway, he was such a little baby then, just tiny, and now, almost six, so grown up, so funny, so much more…well…so much more *everything*.

I know a big part of who my children are is shaped by the Dad they have. My husband Mark is everything my Dad never was. Patient, kind, a hard worker, a loving husband, a dad who is always there with them, hands on, in a way that many kids, me included, could only dream of. My parents divorced when I was just a year old, and my father was absent completely. I am so grateful, and often a bit jealous, that my children will have this amazing foundation, a good Dad, to build their lives upon. Mark is a pretty private person, so I hope he won’t mind me sharing how amazing he is with my readers. :) Here are a couple photos (you know I have to have photos, right?? ;) ) of the guy I’m lucky enough to be married to, doing the Dad thing he does so well. Thanks honey, I am so lucky.

love

A few more sneak peeks…

Such a beautiful newborn, and one of the most compliant pliable little ones. She slept through everything, with the mandatory pee and poop of course. ;)

And can’t forget big sister and brother! Such sweet, nice kids. Really enjoyed meeting them!

I will have more galleries up as soon as possible! :)

thanks!

Mary

Whew…I’m so behind I can’t catch up!~

I have a bunch of sessions to post “sneak peeks” from, but haven’t had the time. I know many clients are waiting for their orders and their galleries and I really appreciate everyone being so patient.

It has been a perfect storm of circumstances that has pushed me so far back~lots of sessions, being out of town for the DFL State Convention for three days, switching to wireless internet (which for some reason caused me to be unable to connect to my lab to submit orders!), and then switching labs due to that but having to remake lots of orders because my computer monitor was calibrated to my old lab… so, I’m working hard to catch up! :)

I had a great time at the Obama rally at the Xcel, and will post some photos of that on my facebook for anyone who does facebook, also have some photos on there from my weekend down at the DFL state convention in Rochester. Look me up if you are “on facebook” and add me as a friend!

My children are {finally!} done with school tomorrow for the summer, so I look forward to seeing them more too! :) Minneapolis Public Schools get out so late!

Anyway, here are a few photos, lots more to come soon I hope….

Two such fun families… just the nicest kids in each, and such great parents. I’m so lucky to have such great people to work with! :)

thanks for looking!
